On September 1st, Art & Soul turns 5! From one store in Beverley to Hull, 330 makers supported, 120,000 orders, and a third shop on the horizon — it’s been an unforgettable journey, and we couldn’t have done it without you.
Milestones That Shaped Us
In five years, Art & Soul has been on quite a journey. We opened our first shop in Beverley right in the middle of a pandemic — and against the odds, it became a place of colour and comfort when people needed it most. The next step was launching our online store, opening the doors to handmade creativity far beyond Yorkshire. Soon after, Hull joined the family — another chapter in growing our creative community. Along the way, our hamster earrings went viral in The Guardian, proving that handmade can make headlines too. And most recently, we were proud to be named Best of Beverley Business Champion — recognition not just of a shop, but of a whole community of artists, makers and customers who made it possible. Now, with Leeds on the horizon, the story is only just beginning…

Art & Soul was born from a shared dream and a lot of late-night chats between husband-and-wife team Jane and Roger Berriman. In 2020, starting with one shop in Beverley and a big vision, we opened the doors to showcase independent artists and makers. What started as a family project has grown into a thriving business with two shops, a busy online store, and a third space on the horizon. From day one, it’s been a true family effort — Roger driving strategy and systems, Jane leading people and brand, and even our children pitching in with packing, displays and digital ideas. Our values — kindness, independence, and high standards — have shaped not just what we do, but how we do it. Five years on, Art & Soul is more than a shop. It’s a family-built platform where artists thrive, customers feel at home, and community comes first. And the story is only just beginning.
