Blanket Octopus - Original Painting

Original watercolour painting by Bryony Caswell. This striking image uses bold colours against a black background, making the octopus jump out from the paper. Painted using iridescent watercolours, inks, texture paste and gold leaf - this makes her sparkle when catching the light (see the close up images for these effects). 

Occurring mostly in the tropics, female blanket octopuses reach 2m - this is 10x the maximum size of the males! She has a webbed "blanket" between her arms that she unfolds to make herself seem bigger when feeling threatened. 

The unframed image measures 28.7 x 41 cm. It is framed under glass, the dark background, black mount and silver acrylic frame - really make her pop. The framed size measures 57 cm x 45 cm, by 1.5 cm depth. The painting is framed with an archival quality (acid-free) backing board (protecting the painting from chemical changes that can affect the colours over time). The painting is sealed at the back, and is wired and ready to hang.
