One-of-one original from Jan Katewicz’s Elementa Laudis studio. Innerysm: Breath holds a quiet expansion—like the pause between inhale and exhale. Hand-cut walnut, ash, and eucalyptus veneers are joined and inlaid onto a rigid panel, toned with artist pigments, and finished with natural oils. Depth emerges from grain direction, colour relationships, and the spaces between forms—the “dance of the wood,” where shifting light creates a subtle sense of movement.

Story
This piece was built around the rhythm of breathing: gathering, opening, settling. The geometry stays pared back so the wood’s character can lead—letting the surface brighten and dim as you move, the way breath widens and returns.

Jan Katewicz (Elementa Laudis) is a Sheffield-based contemporary marquetry artist. His Innerysm series explores presence and self-discovery through precise geometry and the living character of wood, aiming for luminous surfaces that seem to move with light.
